What seems, at first glance, to be a religious riot in Ephesus actually has self-interest - money and success - at its heart. These things are threatened by the Gospel of humility, generosity and Christlike service. Self-interest underpins the system of the world, and it must pass away before God's Kingdom comes. Humbling ourselves, like Jesus, denying our desire for greatness, cuts us off from temptation and allows us to serve the Kingdom now.
