The tribe of Dan, unable to take up the inheritance God had called them to, head north to Laish. Their hundred-mile journey gets them away from warlike Amorites and Philistines - and at their journey's end a soft, peaceable, unsuspecting people, ripe for the plucking. They know what to do. Their journey ends in the conquest of Laish, which they rename Dan - but their spiritual journey ends in appalling disaster - the inevitable consequence of doing things 'my way'.
